Palma de Mallorca – die Perle im Mittelmeer
Das Tor zur Insel Mallorca ist deren Hauptstadt „Palma de Mallorca“. Schmale Gassen, prachtvoll gestaltete Plätze, eine weltweit bekannte Kathedrale, ein luxuriöser Hafen und unzählige Palmen, so präsentiert sich die mallorquinische Stadt ihren Besuchern.
Historisches:
Nach der Eroberung Mallorcas durch die Römer im Jahre 123 v. Chr. gründete der römische Konsul Quintus Caecilius Metellus die Stadt „Palmaria Palmensis“, welche man heute als „Palma de Mallorca“ kennt. Im Laufe der Geschichte änderte sich das Aussehen der Stadt zunehmend. Ihre Blütezeit hatte sie im 16. Jahrhundert, als die Aragonier über die Stadt herrschten. Diese errichteten unter anderem eine Stadtbefestigung und die Kathedrale „La Seu“. Heute ist „Palma de Mallorca“ eine vielseitige und aufregende Großstadt.
Mein Rundgang durch „Palma de Mallorca“ begann am südlichen Ende der Altstadt, unmittelbar am Fuße der gotischen Kathedrale „La Seu“.
Palma de Mallorca – the pearl of the Mediterranean Sea
The gateway to the Island of Mallorca is its capital „Palma de Mallorca“. Narrow alleys, beautifully designed plazas, a world-famous cathedral, a luxurious marina and countless palm trees, this is how the mallorquin city presents itself to its visitors.
Historical background:
The Roman consul Quintus Caecilius Metallus founded the city of „Palmaria Palmensis“, nowadays known as „Palma de Mallorca“, after the Roman conquest of Mallorca in 123 BC. Throughout history, the appearance of the city changed a lot. Its golden age was during the 16th century, when the Aragonese ruled over the city. Among other things, they built a city fortification and the cathedral „La Seu“. Today, „Palma de Mallorca“ is a versatile and exciting city.
My sightseeing tour through „Palma de Mallorca“ started at the southern end of the historical center, right in front of the Gothic cathedral „La Seu“.
Über eine schmale Treppe ging es zunächst hinauf auf die breite Stadtmauer. Von dieser lässt sich der „Parc de la Mar“ und das künstlich angelegte Wasserbecken ausgiebig beobachten.
A narrow stairway led me up onto the wide city wall. From up there, I had a wonderful view across the „Parc de la Mar“ and the artificially created water basin.
Einige Stufen weiter erreichte ich die bekannteste Sehenswürdigkeit der Stadt – die Kathedrale „La Seu“. Ein mächtiges Portal ziert die Westfassade der prächtigen Kathedrale und versetzt seine Betrachter in Staunen.
A few stair steps higher up, I reached the most famous sight of the city – the cathedral „La Seu“. A mighty entrance portal decorates the western façade of the splendid cathedral and astonishes its onlooker.
Unmittelbar hinter der Kathedrale beginnt die verwinkelte Altstadt von „Palma de Mallorca“. Durch schmale Gassen, gesäumt von kleinen Boutiquen, Cafés und prachtvollen Altbauten, wanderte ich quer durch die Altstadt.
The crooked historical center of „Palma de Mallorca“ starts directly behind the cathedral. While walking through the historical center, I passed narrow alleys, small boutiques, cafés and splendid old buildings.
Anschließend schlenderte ich durch den „Garten des Königs“ – den „Jardines de S’Hort del Rei“. Diese kleine Grünanlage ist der ideale Ort für eine Pause in der sehr lebhaften Stadt.
After that, I visited the „Royal Garden“ – the „Jardines de S’Hort del Rei“. This small park is the perfect place for a short break while staying in the lively city.
Durch die von Palmen gesäumte Promenade „Passeig de Sagrera“ ging es weiter zum Hafen von „Palma de Mallorca“.
I passed the palm-lined promenade „Passeig de Sagrera“ while I moved on to the marina of „Palma de Mallorca“.
Der luxuriöse Hafen bietet eine bunte Mischung aus luxuriösen Superyachten, prächtigen Segelschiffen, Sportbooten und einfachen Fischerbooten.
The luxurious marina shows a variety of luxurious super yachts, magnificent sailing ships, powerboats and simple fishing boats.
Auf dem Rückweg zum Ausgangspunkt meines Stadtrundgangs konnte ich nochmals einen Blick auf die herrliche Meeresbucht vor der Stadt werfen.
On my way back to the starting point of my sightseeing tour I could take one more look at the beautiful bay of the city.
