The mountain range Serra de Tramuntana on the island of Mallorca is famous for its beautiful landscape. Over a length of 90 kilometers, you will find picturesque villages, dreamlike bays, fertile plains, amazing roads and great views. It is not without reason that the Serra de Tramuntana was awarded as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 2011!

These are my 3 favorite routes in the Serra de Tramuntana:

The 28-kilometer long drive to Banyalbufar starts at the eastern exit of the harbour town Port d’Andratx. After 3 kilometers on the road „MA 1“, turn onto the „MA 10“ and follow it for 25 kilometers. Since the majority of the route runs along the coast, very often you will have a beautiful view along the coastline and to the deep blue sea. That’s not enough for you? Visit the numerous viewpoints along the route and enjoy the view from there!
The small village Banyalbufar became famous for its many mountainside terraces. Until today, the residents cultivate these terraces mainly with vines, fruit trees and olive trees.
The small watchtower Torre des Verger is located a bit outside of Banyalbufar. It was built in 1579 and should protect the village from attacking Moorish pirates. Today, it is the most-visited viewpoint on the island of Mallorca!

From Lluc to Sa Calobra

The 24-kilometer long drive to Sa Calobra starts at the pilgrimage site Santuari de Santa Maria de Lluc. After one kilometer on the road „MA 2140“, turn onto the „MA 10“ and follow it for 10 kilometers. At an inconspicuous crossing north of the artificial reservoir Gorg Blau, follow the road „MA 2141“ for another 7 kilometers.
Now begins the most thrilling part of your drive! A 6-kilometer serpentine drive down to the coastal town of Sa Calobra. If you are an inexperienced driver, you shouldn’t take this road! Especially the numerous bends should not be underestimated! The road is partly pretty narrow and often used by lots of cyclists.
Once you arrive in Sa Calobra, walking is the only option to get around. You can park your car at a large parking lot (fee is currently 3,50 per hour).

From Port de Pollença to the Cap de Formentor

The 20-kilometer long drive through the hilly mountain landscape of the Formentor peninsula starts at the northern exit of the harbor town Port de Pollença. While driving the road “MA 2210”, you have the opportunity to stop at viewpoints several times to enjoy the impressive cliffs and the deep blue sea.
The more northern you drive, the road becomes more difficult. It is often very narrow, bordered by a rugged cliff and some road sections are without any road boundary! Furthermore, this road is often used by lots of cyclists like the road to Sa Calobra.
The „MA 2210“ ends at the northeastern tip of the Formentor peninsula. Here you will find the lighthouse of the Cap de Formentor. It is a popular photo subject and offers a magnificent view of the northern foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains, as well as the vastness of the sea, which is surrounding the peninsula.
