Die Algarve – Ein Ort, von dem Du bestimmst schon einmal gehört hast!
Sie befindet sich im äußersten Süden Portugals und ist geprägt von zerklüfteten Felslandschaften die in das Meer hineinragen, einer Vielzahl schöner Sandstrandbuchten, kleinen Inseln, zahlreichen Lagunen und malerischen Fischerdörfern.
Bei jedem Besuch gibt es etwas Neues zu entdecken!
Mit über 300 Tagen Sonnenschein im Jahr, fast 200 Kilometern Küste und mit mehr als 100 Stränden gehört die Algarve zu den beliebtesten Reisezielen Europas!

The Algarve – A place, I’m sure you have heard of!
It is located at the southern end of Portugal and characterized by a rugged and rocky landscape that extends into the sea, a wide range of beautiful beaches, small islands, numerous lagoons and picturesque fishing villages.
At each visit, there is something new to explore!
With more than 300 days of sunshine per year, almost 200 kilometers of coastline and with more than 100 beaches, the Algarve is one of Europe’s most popular travel destinations!
In the following, you will find some places you really should pay a visit to!
Faro
Faro ist die bekannteste Stadt der Algarve. Besonders sehenswert ist das historische Zentrum mit seinen engen Gassen, der mächtigen Stadtmauer und den weiß getünchten Prachtbauten aus dem 18. und 19. Jahrhundert.

Faro is the most famous city in the Algarve. Especially worth seeing is the historic centre with its narrow streets, the massive city wall and the all white magnificent buildings from the 18th and 19th century.
Silves
Die Stadt Silves beeindruckt mit seiner historischen Vergangenheit. Im Mittelalter war Silves der am stärksten befestigte und meist umkämpfte Ort der Algarve. Noch heute zeugen die mächtigen Überreste der hoch über der Stadt thronenden rötlichen Burg Castelo dos Mouros von dieser Zeit.

The city of Silves impresses with its historic past. In the medieval ages, Silves was the most fortified and the most important battleground in the Algarve. Until today, the massive remnants of the reddish castle Castelo dos Mouros are towering above the city and are witnesses of that past time.
Strände
Die Algarve ist bekannt für ihre wunderschönen Strände. Mehr als 100 von ihnen warten darauf von Dir besucht zu werden! Ob umgeben von bizarren Felsformationen, in abgelegenen Buchten oder an langgestreckten Sanddünen, an der Algarve wirst Du Deinen Traumstrand bestimmt finden!

Beaches
The Algarve is famous for its beautiful beaches. More than 100 of them are waiting to be visited by you! Whether it is surrounded by bizarre rock formations, in secluded bays or on long sand dunes, I’m sure, you will find your dream beach on the coast of the Algarve!
Lagos
Lagos ist eine der faszinierendsten und interessantesten Städte der Algarve. Schon früh nahm Lagos eine wichtige Rolle in der Geschichte der Seefahrt ein. So starteten hier im 15. Jahrhundert einige der bekanntesten portugiesischen Eroberungsfahrten über die Weltmeere. Heute spiegelt sich diese reiche Vergangenheit in den zahlreichen baulichen Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt wieder.
Lagos
Lagos is one of the most fascinating and interesting cities of the Algarve. Early on, Lagos played an important role in the seafaring history. In the 15th century, some of Portugal’s most famous journeys of conquest across the ocean started here. Today, numerous architectural sights reflect this prestigious past of the city.
Ponta da Piedade
Die Ponta da Piedade ist die schönste Felsformation der Algarve. Erkunde den Felsengarten am südlichen Stadtrand von Lagos zu Fuß und erlebe die durch Wasser und Wind zerklüftete rot-gelbe Felslandschaft mit ihren saftig grünen Ebenen hautnah!

Igreja de São Lourenço dos Matos
Die Kirche Igreja de São Lourenço dos Matos ist ein barockes Juwel und gehört zu den schönsten Kulturschätzen der Algarve. Hinter der schlichten weißen Fassade versteckt sich ein prächtiger Innenraum mit blau-weiß bemalten Kacheln und vergoldetem Schnitzwerk.
Igreja de São Lourenço dos Matos
The church Igreja de São Lourenço dos Matos is a baroque jewel and also one of the most beautiful cultural treasures of the Algarve. Behind its plain white facade hides a splendid interior with blue-white painted tiles and golden carvings.
Portimão
Die zweitgrößte Stadt der Algarve ist Portimão. Die alte Hafenstadt liegt an der Mündung des Flusses Rio Arade und ist Anlaufstelle zahlreicher großer Kreuzfahrtschiffe.
Im August findet in Portimão das berühmte Festival da Sardinha (das Sardinenfest) statt.

The second largest city of the Algarve is Portimão. This old harbor town is located at the estuary of the river Rio Arade and is a port of call for numerous big cruise ships.
In August, the famous Festival da Sardinha (the sardine festival) is taking place in Portimão.
Algar Seco & Carvoeiro Boardwalk
Unweit des kleinen Küstenortes Carvoeiro befindet sich die durch Wind und Wellen stark zerklüftete Felsformation Algar Seco. Am Fuße der Klippen lässt sich hier die Kraft des Meeres aus nächster Nähe erleben.
Hoch über dem Meeresniveau schlängelt sich der Carvoeiro Boardwalk, ein aus Holz gefertigter Wanderweg, die Klippen entlang. Auf einer Länge von 500 Metern lässt sich bei einem Spaziergang die beeindruckende Aussicht auf das tosende Meer genießen.

Not far from the small coastal town of Carvoeiro, you will find the rugged rock formation Algar Seco, which was shaped by wind and water. Experience the power of the ocean from up close where the water hits the rocks.
High above sea level, the Carvoeiro Boardwalk, a hiking trail made out of wood, winds along the cliffs. While strolling along the trail for 500 meters, you will be able to enjoy the impressive view at the wild ocean.
Monte Fóia
Der Monte Fóia in der Serra de Monchique ist mit 902 Metern der höchste Berg der Algarve. An klaren Tagen kannst Du von seinem Gipfel bis an das Cabo de São Vicente blicken!

Cabo de São Vicente
Am südwestlichen Punkt Europas befindet sich das Cabo de São Vicente. Sobald die Sonne am Horizont des Atlantiks zu versinken beginnt, wird das windumtoste Kap mit seiner kleinen Festung und dem Leuchtturm zur Pilgerstätte zahlreicher Romantiker. In Scharen versammeln sie sich am Rande der Klippen und genießen einen herrlichen unvergesslichen Sonnenuntergang.
Cabo de São Vicente
The Cabo de São Vicente is located at the southwestern point of Europe. When the sun is setting on the horizon of the Atlantic, the windswept cape with its small fortress and lighthouse becomes a place of pilgrimage for romantics. They gather at the edges of the cliff and enjoy the wonderful and unforgettable sunset.
Fortaleza de Sagres
Auf einem Felsplateau südwestlich von Sagres thront, weit über dem Meer, das Fort Fortaleza de Sagres. Hinter seinen gewaltigen weißen Mauern liegt ein riesiges Areal mit einem drei Kilometer langen Rundweg. Von diesem hast Du einen wunderbaren Blick auf das offene Meer und das Cabo de São Vicente.

High above sea level, on a rock plateau in the southwest of Sagres, towers the fortress Fortaleza de Sagres. Its massive white walls hide an enormous area with a trail, that is three kilometers long. From there, you can enjoy a beautiful view over the ocean and to the Cabo de São Vicente.
Aussichtspunkt Praia da Luz
Dir macht eine zweistündige Wanderung nichts aus? Dann ist die Wanderung hinauf zum Aussichtspunkt Praia da Luz genau das Richtige für Dich. Bei gutem Wetter kannst Du nicht nur den Dir zu Füßen liegenden Ort Luz sehen, sondern auch die komplette Küstenlinie bis nach Sagres!

You don’t mind to hike for two hours? Than a hike up to the viewpoint Praia da Luz is the perfect thing for you! On a clear day, you will not only see the city of Luz that is right in front of you but also the whole coastline up to Sagres!
Zusätzliche Informationen
Am einfachsten erreichst Du die Algarve mit dem Flugzeug. Dieses landet auf dem Flughafen Faro, welcher sich nur wenige Kilometer außerhalb des Stadtzentrums Faros befindet.
Sollteste Du vorhaben, die von mir vorgestellten Orte zu besichtigen, empfehle ich Dir die Anmietung eines Mietwagens. Ohne diesen sind die meisten Orte nicht oder nur erschwert zu erreichen!
Wichtig: Für die Nutzung der portugiesischen Autobahnen ist eine Maut zu entrichten! Einige Mietwagenfirmen bieten die Hinzubuchung eines Mautgerätes an, welches die anfallende Maut elektronisch registriert. Die Abrechnung der angefallenen Maut erfolgt problemlos nach der Rückgabe des Mietfahrzeugs.
Additional information
The easiest way to get to the Algarve is by plane. It will land at the Faro Airport, which is located only a few kilometers outside the city center of Faro.
If you plan to visit the places above, I highly recommend getting a rental car. Without a car, it is impossible or very complicated to get to these places!
Note: A toll needs to be paid when using the Portuguese expressways! Some car rental companies offer a toll device as a rent option, which electronically registers the arising toll. After returning the rental car, you will just get a toll-bill from the car rental company.
