Wenn man den Namen der Stadt Bozen hört, denkt man sofort an eines: Ötzi.
Den über 5000 Jahre alten Mann aus dem Eis, welcher von einem wandernden Ehepaar im nahegelegenen Ötztal entdeckt wurde.
Doch Bozen hat noch viel mehr zu bieten als nur den Besuch eines Museums!
Bozen ist der Schnittpunkt zweier Sprachen und Kulturen. Hier spricht man deutsch und italienisch. Dies führte dazu, dass Bozen Jahrhunderte lang ein wichtiges Handelszentrum zwischen Italien und Deutschland war.
Seit 1991 ist Bozen die Hauptstadt von Südtirol und wird bei Reisenden immer beliebter. Vor allem die malerische Altstadt ist sehr beliebt. Sie besticht durch ihre engen Gassen, die aufwändig gestalteten Häuser sowie die zahlreichen Boutiquen und Restaurants.
Auf meiner letzten Reise durch Südtirol verbrachte ich einen Nachmittag in Bozen.

When you hear the name of the city of Bolzano, you immediately think of one thing: Ötzi.
The more than 5000 years old man, who was discovered in the ice by a hiking married couple in nearby Ötztal.
But Bolzano has a lot more to offer than just a visit to a museum!
Bolzano is the intersection of two languages and cultures. German and Italian is spoken everywhere. The result was, that Bolzano became an important trade center between Italy and Germany for centuries.
Since 1991, Bolzano is the capital city of South Tyrol and it becomes more and more popular to travelers. In particular the picturesque old town is very popular. It fascinates with its narrow alleys, elaborately designed buildings and the numerous boutiques and restaurants.
On my last trip to South Tirol, I spent an afternoon in Bolzano.

Rathausplatz / Piazza del Municipio
Der Rathausplatz (Piazza del Municipio) befindet sich am östlichen Ende der „Lauben“ (Portici), welche bis heute die wichtigste Straße der Altstadt ist.
Besonders auffällig sind die zahlreichen alten Handelshäuser, die sich am Rathausplatz befinden. Sie beeindrucken mit ihren prächtigen Stuck-Fassaden im Rokokostil und den aufwändigen Fassadenbemalungen.
Rathausplatz / Piazza del Municipio
The Rathausplatz (Piazza del Municipio) is located at the eastern end of the „Lauben“ (Portici), which is the most important street of the old town until today.
Especially noticeable are the numerous old business houses that are located at the Rathausplatz. They impress with splendid stucco facades in rococo style and an opulent painted exterior.
Historische Bebauung
Die Altstadt von Bozen ist reich an historischer Bebauung. Fast jedes Gebäude glänzt mit einer aufwändig gestalteten Fassade oder einer prächtigen Bemalung.

The old town of Bolzano is rich in historical buildings. Almost every building shines with an elaborately designed facade or an opulent paint job.
Obstmarkt / Piazza Erbe
Herzstück der Altstadt ist der Obstmarkt (Piazza Erbe). Hier werden seit über 500 Jahren Obst, Gemüse und andere frische Waren verkauft. Der Markt ist täglich, außer am Samstagnachmittag sowie an Sonn- und Feiertagen, geöffnet.

The Obstmarkt (Piazza Erbe) is the heart of the old town. For more than 500 years, fruits, vegetables and other fresh goods are sold at this place. The marketplace is open daily, except on Saturday afternoon, Sundays and public holidays.
Eisack / Isarco
Der Fluss Eisack (Isarco) bildet die südliche Grenze der Bozener Altstadt. Er ist der zweitgrößte Fluss Südtirols und mündet 100 Kilometer südlich von Bozen in den Fluss Etsch.

The Eisack River (Isarco) forms the southernmost border of Bolzano’s old town. It is South Tyrol’s second largest river and flows into the Etsch River around 100 kilometers south of Bolzano.
Waltherplatz / Piazza Walther
Der Waltherplatz (Piazza Walther) ist der bekannteste Platz der Stadt Bozen.
Er ist nach dem berühmten Minnesänger Walther von der Vogelweide benannt, zu dessen Ehren auch ein großes Denkmal aus Marmor auf dem Platz errichtet wurde.

It is named by the famous minnesinger Walther von der Vogelweide, in whose honor a large marble monument had been built at the square.
Dom Maria Himmelfahrt / Duomo di Bolzano
Der Dom Maria Himmelfahrt (Duomo di Bolzano) ist die Stadtpfarrkirche der Stadt Bozen und zugleich die Bischofskirche der römisch-katholischen Diözese Bozen-Brixen.
Im Laufe der Geschichte wurde der Dom mehrmals umgebaut und erweitert. Sein heutiges Aussehen im spätgotischen Stil erhielt er im 16. Jahrhundert.
Maria Himmelfahrt Cathedral / Duomo di Bolzano
The Maria Himmelfahrt Cathedral (Duomo di Bolzano) is the parish church of the city of Bolzano and also the bishop’s church of the Roman Catholic diocese of Bolzano-Brixen.
Throughout history, the cathedral was modified and enlarged several times. It got its current appearance, a late Gothic style, in the 16th century.
Siegesdenkmal / Monumento alla Vittoria
Das Siegesdenkmal (Monumento alla Vittoria) ist eines der bedeutendsten Monumente aus der Zeit des Faschismus in Bozen. Es wurde auf Anordnung von Benito Mussolini errichtet und ist den Märtyrern des Ersten Weltkrieges gewidmet.

The Victory Monument (Monumento alla Vittoria ) is one of the most important monuments from the time of the Fascism in Bolzano. It was built on orders of Benito Mussolini and is dedicated to the martyrs of the World War I.

Das Museion ist ein Museum für moderne und zeitgenössische Kunst in Bozen. Es wurde 1985 gegründet und verfügt über eine umfangreiche Sammlung.

Südtiroler Archäologiemuseum / Museo Archeologico dell’Alto Adige
Das Südtiroler Archäologiemuseum (Museo Archeologico dell’Alto Adige) ist der Ausstellungsort der berühmten Gletschermumie „Ötzi“. Das Museum gehört zu den führenden archäologischen Museen Italiens und wird jährlich von tausenden Besuchern besichtigt.
Auf der gegenüberliegenden Straßenseite befindet sich das Stadtmuseum (Museo Civico) von Bozen.
South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology / Museo Archeologico dell’Alto Adige
The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology is the exhibition venue of the famous glacier mummy „Ötzi“. The museum is one of the leading archaeological museums of Italy and is visited by thousands of visitors every year.
The city museum (Museo Civico) of Bolzano is located on the other side of the street.
Talfer / Talvera
Die Talfer (Talvera) durchfließt die Stadt Bozen. An ihrem Ufer befindet sich beidseitig eine gut ausgebaute und reichlich begrünte Promenade mit Fuß- und Radweg.

The Talfer River (Talvera) flows through the city of Bolzano. On both of its waterfronts are well constructed and extensively greened promenades with foot and cycle paths.
Seitenstraßen
Zahlreiche Straßen in der Nähe des Flusses Talfer sind mit Baumalleen begrünt. Besonders am späten Nachmittag lässt sich dort das grandiose Zusammenspiel von Licht und Schatten bewundern.
Side streets
Numerous streets near the Talfer River are greened with an alley of trees. There you can admire the wonderful interaction of light and shadow, especially in the late afternoon.
Bergketten
Von zahlreichen Punkten in der Altstadt hat man einen herrlichen Blick auf die Bergketten, die sich komplett um Bozen erheben.
Du möchtest die Stadt einmal von oben betrachten? Bozen besitzt drei Seilbahnen, die Dich in wenigen Minuten auf 1000 Meter Höhe bringen!

From numerous places in the old town, you have a wonderful view of the mountain ranges that are surrounding the city of Bolzano.
You want to see the city from high above? Bolzano has three cableways that bring you to a high of 1000 meters in just a few minutes!
